Welcome back to the Matchside weekly roundup!

One of the best things about being a sports fan in London is that even in a week when there’s no regular league sport happening, you still have a handful of iconic events to choose from.

I’m not doing a top picks this week because there’s only five events happening over the next week, and all of them are well worth checking out. Keep reading for the details 😎

👀 What’s on this week 👀

1. 🏑 13th–28th June: FIH Pro League Hockey

📍 Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre | Tickets from £20

Twelve days of international field hockey double headers at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, with England's men and women taking on Argentina, Australia, Germany and more. Each day features a women’s and men’s match back-to-back, so you get great value for money.

This weekend’s match days:

  • Saturday 13th June: ENG v ARG (M) & ENG v GER (W)

  • Sunday 14th June: ENG v AUS (M) & ENG v GER (W)

2. 🏉 Sunday 14th June: Saracens Women vs Exeter Chiefs, PWR Play-off Semi-Final (4.30pm)

📍 StoneX Stadium | Tickets £20

The defending champions Saracens host Exeter Chiefs in the Premiership Women’s Rugby play-off semi-final. High stakes knockout rugby at StoneX, and one of the best occasions in the women's game. Trailfinders Women play Gloucester away in the other semi-final, so there’s still a chance of an all-London final!

3. 🏇 16th–20th June: Royal Ascot

📍 Ascot Racecourse | Tickets from £37

The most famous flat racing festival in the world, and one that everyone should do at least once in their life. It goes for five days from Tuesday to Saturday — it looks like Saturday is already sold out but the other days have a few tickets left across the various enclosures.

4. 🏏 17th–21st June: Test Cricket — England vs New Zealand, 2nd Test

📍 Kia Oval | Tickets from £90

The second Test of the summer comes to South London. The Oval is a wonderful ground to watch a day of Test cricket, known for having one of the best atmospheres in the country. Very limited number of tickets are available across days 1-4, with day 5 going on sale later if the game goes that far.

5. 🎾 13th–21st June: Lexus Nottingham Open

📍 Nottingham Tennis Centre | Tickets from £12

A WTA 250 and ATP Challenger 125 event on grass, kicking off the pre-Wimbledon grass court season. The train from London to Nottingham or Beeston is only around 1h30, so this is a genuinely great value day out if you don’t mind the journey.

🏉 Gallagher PREM Final (Saturday 20th June, 3pm)

📍 Twickenham | Tickets from £45

The biggest day in English club rugby, with 80,000 fans packed into Twickenham to crown the Premiership champions. The finalists will be confirmed after this weekend's semi-finals, but whoever makes it, this will be an incredible spectacle that always lives up to the hype. There are fewer than 3,000 tickets left so you’ll need to move fast.
